First FCA International Watercolour Biennale 2013

First FCA International Watercolour Biennale 2013

Spain, Portugal and Canada are the participating delegations in this invitational exhibition.

Life is a landscape of experiences that we live and use to form our reality. It is wonderful to realize that dreaming about goals that may be considered impossible or out of reach is the first step toward making those goals a reality. Dreaming is one quality required in any artistic endeavor and this first FCA watercolour biennale is the realization of a dream that connects ideology, interests and cultures.

It is also a gathering of different visions of the landscapes we are touched by and represents the unique expression of each artist in his or her works on display.

The ideology of the biennale finds inspiration from the international biennale organized by the Madrid Association de Spanish Watercolour Artists (AEDA). There is also a very important component in this exhibition, which is the participation of two independent groups from Spain and Portugal.

From Spain a group of seven young independent artists, whose work is breaking rules and pushing the boundaries of watercolour themes and expression, is comprised of Pablo Rubén Lopez Sanz, Joan Coch Rey, Manolo Jiménez, Camilo Huescar, Juankar Cardesin, Carlos Espiga and Aitor Rentería.

From Portugal a unique group of seven artists are exploring the vernacular richness of their country and are led by Master Antonio Bartolo, Carlos Santos Marques, Carlos Almeida, Lucinda Gravito, Nelson Jesus Ferreira, Angela Pinheiro and Rui Pinheiro.

The participation of all these artists and 20 members of the FCA is an incredible realization and something to look up to as watercolour approaches keep evolving in freshness and focus. For the Federation of Canadian Artists, with its continuous shows revealing the evolution and progress of members, this show may help to inspire new works and exploration.
