'New Spanish Film Festival'
North America’s leading showcase for the best in contemporary Spanish film returns with five premieres, featuring the latest, most exciting films.
The Festival of New Spanish Cinema is six-years old and remains as fresh as ever, with a bevy of new talents that manage to produce sharply-observed and engaging works that stretch across every cinematic genre.
Pragda, the Embassy of Spain in Canada, and ByTowne Cinema celebrate its return, and welcome the festival which will travel afterwards to Seattle, Miami, Washington, Edmonton, San Juan de Puerto Rico, Houston, Portland, Vancouver and Chicago in the next few months.
The festival kicks off October 2nd with the box office success and award winning comedy by accomplished filmmaker Cesc Gay, about men that will delight women, A Gun in Each Hand (Una Pistola en Cada Mano).
Other films scheduled to screen every Wednesday: Roberto Pérez Toledo's impressive Six Points About Emma (Seis Puntos Sobre Emma); Map (Mapa), the eccentric and fun travelogue by Elias León Siminiani, one of the best respected independent filmmakers working today; The Wild Ones (Els Nens Salvatges), a surprising portrayal of Spanish teenagers by Patricia Ferreira, one of the greatest filmmakers working in the country today; and the revelation of the year, Casting, directed by José Naranjo, which will introduce audience to the new faces of Spanish cinema. All Films are Ottawa premieres.
