2nd edition of Authentic Flamenco by the Royal Opera of Madrid in Ottawa

The Royal Opera of Madrid, Spain’s major performing arts institution, presents “Authentic Flamenco,” a traditional Spanish flamenco show featuring rising star “El Yiyo.”

After a successful run with more than 124,000 tickets sold worldwide, Authentic Flamenco returns to Canada.

In A Mi Aire, El Yiyo combines passion and improvisation, dancing with the spontaneity of a child at play while connecting with the audience. The show explores the essence of flamenco, merging tradition and passion with innovative improvisation.

El Yiyo

At just 23 years old, El Yiyo boasts nearly fifteen years of professional experience. He began dancing in tablaos as a child, and some are already calling him the new Joaquín Cortés. Although he comes from a gypsy family in Jaén with no professional artistic background, his journey has been driven by pure intuition and passion. At the age of seven, during a family party, a dancer recognized his talent, took him under his wing, and introduced him to the stage. Since then, he has headlined over twenty shows and, at just eleven years old, embarked on his first international tour.

His dance style is both elegant and wild, attracting the attention of photographers and fashion brands, which have spotlighted him as a model. El Yiyo has already appeared in Vogue magazine and on major television networks. He has even negotiated with Armani to showcase their clothing on stage. Despite his youth, this fresh passionate dancer has shared stages with Estrella Morente, Miguel Poveda, Farruquito, Eva Yerbabuena, and Pitingo.

Teatro Real

Teatro Real (Royal Opera of Madrid) is an independently-run public foundation with significant social involvement in its governing and funding bodies, and the participation –at state, regional and local level– of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the Regional Government of Madrid and Madrid City Council. It is deemed Spain’s major institution for the musical and performing arts, and is the leading national opera house, with significant and growing global outreach. In recent years, aided by solid, professional and independent management, the Theatre has received numerous accolades, including the International Opera Award as the World’s Best Opera Company.
