Castro Romero Flamenco Canada Tour 2024 in Montreal
The Castro Romero siblings present Esencia Flamenca on a tour across Canada in November 2024, with stops in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and Vancouver.
The Castro Romero siblings are among Spain’s most renowned flamenco dancers and choreographers. They have achieved international recognition, performing on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including The American Ballet, Paris Opera and The Royal Ballet. In 2008, the Castro Romero brothers were awarded the Spanish National Prize for Cultura Viva dance, cementing their status in the flamenco world.
At an early age, they appeared in Carlos Saura’s critically acclaimed film El Amor Brujo (The Bewitched Love) and became the featured dancers at the world-famous Corral de la Morería in Madrid.
They founded their own dance company, Flamenco Suite Española, in 1994, where they serve as artistic directors, choreographers, and principal dancers. Flamenco Suite Española has been a featured guest at festivals and theaters worldwide, including the Festival Cervantino in Guanajuato, Mexico; the Mikkeli Festival in Finland; the Aegean Festival at Piccola Scala in Syros; the Amalá Festival in Kiev; the Khamoro Festival in Prague; the Lycabettus Theatre in Athens; the Odessa Philharmonic; and the Kharkiv Opera in Ukraine, among many others.
In 2015, Flamenco Suite Española became the first flamenco company invited to perform at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia. Earlier that year, Rosario and Ricardo choreographed a new production of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen for Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater, where they were the featured flamenco soloists. All performances sold out months in advance, earning them high praise from Russia’s theatrical press.
Flamenco Suite Española has collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX) in Cameroon, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Angola,Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Australia Malaysia, Indonesia, Morocco, Thailand and Tanzania.
