Dorantes at Montreal International Jazz Festival 2016
Don’t miss the only performance of Renaud Garcia-Fons and Dorantes in Montreal.
Heir to one of Spain’s most prestigious and legendary Andalusian musical families (his grandmother was the great cantatrice La Perrata and his father, flamenco guitarist Tocaor), David Peña Dorantes has a natural passion for the art of flamenco pulsing through his veins.
Studying piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Seville as a young man, he is today highly regarded as one of the most creative and innovative flamenco piano virtuosos of our time. Drawing on a wide blend of musical styles for his compositions, he gracefully combines classical, jazz, Celtic or Brazilian into his melodies, a rare avant-garde style that has earned him countless international awards and accolades.
Dorantes has released three acclaimed solo albums: Orobroy in 1998, Sur in 2001, and Sin muros in 2012. In 2015, the musician released Paseo a Dos, recorded and composed with bassist Renaud Garcia-Fons.
