Spanish Poets at VERSeFest 2018
Berta García Faet and Gonzalo Hermo participate in the “Transatlantic Showcase” at Ottawa’s annual International Festival of Poetry.
During six days, from March 20th to the 25th, seventy poets gather to celebrate written poetry and the spoken word in English and French at VERSeFest ’18, Ottawa’s annual International Festival of Poetry. Built on a mandate of fostering creative crossroads and community, the Festival features English and French poetry of all traditions, styles, and forms. Since 2011, the best local, Canadian, and international poets have performed in both spoken and written word genres. As one of Canada’s largest and most successful poetry festivals, its stages have featured readings by Griffin, Governor General, and Pulitzer Prize winners.
Spanish poets Berta García Faet and Gonzalo Hermo participate in the Transatlantic Showcase on March 24 at 7 pm.
About Berta García Faet
Berta García Faet is the author of 6 poetry collections, most recently, Los salmos fosforitos (2017) and La edad de merecer (2015). She won the Premio Nacional de Poesía Antonio González de Lama for the book Fresa y herida (2010), and the IV Premio de Poesía Joven Pablo García Baena (ex aequo),for the book Introducción a todo in 2010.
About Gonzalo Hermo
Born in 1987 in Galicia (Spain), Gonzalo Hermo holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Santiago de Compostela, and is currently teaching at de Department of French and Romance Studies in the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Hermo has published two collections of poetry: Crac (Barbantesa, 2011) and Celebración (Apiario, 2014), translated into Catalan (2016, Godall) and into Spanish (2017, La Bella Varsovia). His work has receive the Galician Youth Poetry Award, and the national prize for best book of poetry by a younger poet. He is one of the founders of Chan da Pólvora, publisher of Galician poetry.
